Slow Cooker Rotisserie Chicken
I’ve mentioned before that our son absolutely loves chicken legs. And, he loves the dark chicken thigh meat.
He takes on chicken wings like it’s his j-o-b.
Which is why, as you can imagine that this crockpot whole chicken recipe always goes over like gangbusters in my house full of comfort food, meat and potato loving people.
And, I love the rotisserie style flavor that you get from having a whole chicken slow cooking in the house all day.
Here’s how I accomplish the best slow cooker chicken you can have.
Ingredients for making a whole chicken in a slow cooker:
4-5 pound broiler chicken
2 Tablespoons Paprika
2 Tablespoons garlic powder
1 1/2 teaspoons onion powder
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
3-4 teaspoons water
In a large slow cooker (6-quart or bigger) add whole chicken breast side down
In a small bowl combine remaining ingredients to form a paste
Coat chicken on the outside and as much of the inside as you can with paste
Cover and cook on low for 7-8 hours or on high 4 – 4 1/2 hours total time until a meat thermometer inserted into the thickest part of the chicken reads 180 degrees.
Place chicken on a dish or platter and let sit for a few minutes before cutting and slicing to serve.
Serve chicken with rice, mashed potatoes, veggies, salad or any other side dish.
** If you want your rotisserie chicken to have crispy skin, move the chicken to a baking sheet lined with foil and put it under the broiler for 4-5 minutes until the skin is browned. Flip the chicken over if you want both sides browned.
I usually make this as a slow cooker whole chicken and rice meal with the rice served on the side – it’s delicious!
If you’re on a budget, this is a good crockpot recipe that costs under $10 to make!
