Easy Homemade Chicken Noodle Soup
There’s something about a good homemade chicken noodle soup, wouldn’t you agree? The smell, the texture, the veggies to add some freshness to the doldrums of the winter months.
It seems like the minute I see the temperatures drop below freezing, a big pot of easy chicken noodle soup is on my mind and letting go of the idea is next to impossible until it’s been made.
This is the recipe I almost always use, especially if I want to ensure that there are extras to give to my parents. They love it just as much as we do.
Most common questions I am asked about this easy recipe for chicken noodle soup.
Can chicken noodle soup be frozen?
You bet chicken noodle soup can be frozen! When I have given out a few bowls and I see that my family is slowing down on eating the leftovers of this chicken noodle soup I will always freeze the leftovers using my Foodsaver vacuum. There are tons of highly rated foodsaver type machines here.
The leftovers are awesome to pull out of the freezer when I need an extra meal for the week, or when someone needs a dinner in a pinch.
To freeze the chicken noodle soup, simply use a coffee mug to take the soup from the bowl and put into a freezer baggie or Foodsaver bag. Press all the air out, seal and lay flat inside the freezer.
Freeze up to 3 months.
How to cook frozen chicken and noodles?
To cook the frozen chicken and noodles, thaw the baggie in refrigerator and transfer to a container when thawed. Eat the soup within 3 days. For best results, do not refreeze.
How to prepare thick chicken noodle soup?
For starters, when you use the noodles that I’m using in this recipe, the longer the soup sits, the higher the chance that you’ll get a thicker soup.
There are a couple things that you can do to make a thicker soup in less time, though.
Adding a little corn starch and water roux mixture to the soup will thicken the soup, or you could also add a can of cream of chicken soup. Either direction you go will be delicious.
What are the best spices for chicken noodle soup?
I love a bay leaf and dash of nutmeg in my chicken noodle soup. I think they really bring the whole dish together.
If you happen to have fish sauce on hand, there are friends of mine that swear that a splash of fish sauce is life changing for chicken noodle soup.
I haven’t tried it, so if you decide to try this out, let me know in the comments what you thought!
What is your secret to amazing homemade chicken noodle soup?
I mean, have you ever met a chicken noodle soup you didn’t like? I sure haven’t! But, in my own biased way, my secret to amazing homemade chicken noodles soup is using the homestyle Reams noodles and the spices. I also couldn’t ever do homemade chicken and noodles without veggies.
Why should you eat chicken soup while having the flu?
When you are suffering from the flu, it’s so important that your body stays hydrated. Chicken noodle soup helps you get the fluids you need and it’s nourishing, too.
Some scientific evidence also suggests that it may help with healing. Hot chicken soup may also improve the way tiny hair-like parts in the passages of your nose protect your body from bacteria and viruses.
That’s likely why chicken noodle soup recipes sound so delicious when you’re sick!

When I make chicken and noodles I like to make sure that my veggies are softened and the spices have had a chance to come together before adding the noodles. The noodles are the last thing to cook inside the delicious chicken broth.
