Best Ever Shrimp Fried Rice Recipe

How to Make Shrimp Fried Rice:

I’ve always loved trying to create my restaurant inspired copycat dishes at home, and my easy shrimp fried rice has become a favorite of my family’s.

I knew I had to get it up on the blog as soon as I could so you could take a swing at it as well.

If you’re nervous, like I was the very first time I made my now famous, shrimp stir fry rice, don’t be!

You’ll feel better knowing that this recipe would cost so much more money if you ordered it from your local Chinese restaurant for takeout.

For just a fraction of the cost, you’ll have about six orders/meals worth of this easy shrimp fried rice recipe for about $10 in the comfort of your own home.

Best Tips for Making Restaurant Style Shrimp Fried Rice at Home:

There is one tip that you take into consideration when making your own shrimp fried rice recipe, or any fried rice for that matter … I will never, ever skip on this secret – and you shouldn’t either.

When you make any kind of fried rice recipe at home, you absolutely need to start with day old rice.

This means that you will need to plan ahead when you make this recipe because you’ll have had to have made your rice the day before.

The rice will be cold and easily stirred, and not mushy. Mushy, warm rice is the worst thing you can use in a fried rice recipe and it will be a waste of all the other ingredients, unfortunately.

So, start with cold cooked rice!

How Much Rice Should I Use for Fried Rice?

When I make rice for this recipe, I make 4 cups of uncooked rice, which will work out to 12 cups of cooked rice.

It seems like a lot, but we are big fans of leftovers in this house, meaning that I love to have leftovers in the refrigerator for lunches and dinners on the go for the next 2-3 days.

When I write out this recipe I am only going to make it for 6 cups of cooked rice, as I know not everyone needs loads and loads of fried rice with shrimp, but just know that this recipe is very easily doubled.

How to Make Shrimp Fried Rice in 10 Easy Steps:

  1. Preheat a large pan to medium high heat
  2. Beat eggs in separate bowl
  3. Add oil to the pan
  4. Pour in eggs
  5. Add vegetables
  6. Add shrimp
  7. Mix all ingredients
  8. Add rice
  9. Add seasonings
  10. Stir & Enjoy!

Of course, I have pictures that will help bring this all to life for you.

See my favorite shrimp fried life come to fruition in these pictures below:

What are the Shrimp Fried Rice Ingredients?

My recipe for shrimp fried rice calls for all of the obvious things … like white rice, carrots, peas and onions, but you’ll also need a couple of sauces like soy sauce and dark mushroom soy sauce.

You’ll be tempted to not buy sauces that you don’t think you’ll use again, but I’m telling you that when you use the sauces in my recipe and get the taste just right, you’re going to be using it time and time again, because this will become a regular recipe that you make.

Other ingredients, as you’ll see in the recipe card below include:

  • Sesame oil
  • Salt
  • Pepper
  • Sugar
  • Jasmine Rice

That’s about it!

Can you add more ingredients to an easy shrimp fried rice? You absolutely can! I can think of water chesnuts, cashews, green onions, or other veggies that you know that your family loves right off the top of my head!

You can also substitute the shrimp (your protein) for chicken to make a chicken fried rice, or even tofu to make a homemade fried rice with tofu!

The options are endless!

What pairs well with shrimp fried rice?

If you’re feeling super motivated, you could also serve this fried rice with shrimp with Crab Rangoon Dip or Crab Rangoons.
